Travelling Thailand as an LGBT Person
Travelling to Thailand as an LGBT person can be a rewarding and enriching experience. Thailand is known for its friendly and accepting culture, and the LGBT community is generally well-respected and welcomed throughout the country. Here are some things to keep in mind for LGBT travellers in Thailand:
Acceptance
Thailand is known for its tolerant and accepting attitude towards LGBT individuals. While attitudes may vary in more rural or conservative areas, major cities and tourist destinations are generally very LGBT-friendly.
LGBT Scene
Thailand has a vibrant LGBT scene, particularly in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. These cities offer numerous bars, clubs, and events catering specifically to the LGBT community.
Legal Status
There are no laws prohibiting same-sex sexual activity. Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is also prohibited by law.
Public Display of Affection
Public displays of affection, regardless of sexual orientation, are generally considered taboo in Thai culture. While it's common to see same-sex couples holding hands or showing affection in LGBT-friendly spaces, it's advisable to be mindful of cultural norms in more public settings.
Gender Identity
Thailand is relatively progressive when it comes to gender identity, and transgender individuals are widely accepted in Thai society. The country is known for its vibrant transgender community, known locally as "kathoeys" or "ladyboys."
Safety
Thailand is generally a safe destination for LGBT travellers, but it's still important to exercise common sense and take precautions, particularly when traveling in unfamiliar areas or late at night.
Overall Thailand offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBT travellers, with plenty of opportunities to connect with the local community and enjoy all that the country has to offer.

For about £2 per kilo, local laundry services will wash your clothes early morning and return them washed and neatly pressed the following afternoon.
Our programmes are fun-filled and action-packed but but don’t worry, you’ll still have some free time to relax or explore on your own. Your guides will be able to recommend some great activities and places to visit.
Certainly, with so many amazing places in Thailand, we encourage this! Each member of our team is well-traveled and have visited Thailand many times, so we are always happy to give you travel advice. If you want to book onto another tour to continue your travels, just let us know and we’ll even offer you a discount!
This can really vary. Thailand is relatively cheap, and it depends how well you can, or need to budget. There are also opportunities to do additional activities which you may want to get involved in. For further advice contact our team and we can help you come up with an idea how much you will need to budget for.
Definitely! You will be making friends from the moment you land in Thailand, friends you will keep for life after sharing such an amazing experience.
You will receive a packing list as part of the ‘Pre-Departure Pack’ which you will be sent after booking, but here’s just a few items we recommend taking;
The choice is yours, but a backpack is definitely more suitable for travelling around Thailand. Plus, you don’t want to look like a starry-eyed first time traveller dragging around a heavy suitcase, looking like you just landed at a 5* resort in Europe!
Passport: A full passport valid for the duration of your stay is required. Please check that you still have at least 6 months left in your passport from the time you arrive in Thailand.
Visa: Currently UK citizens are able to travel to Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa. Please make sure you read the latest travel advice here before you go!
Personal Insurance, covering the time you will be in Thailand plus any activities that you will be undertaking, as well as any planned travel to other countries.
An Enhanced DBS Check. We’ve made this easy for you – you can book this with us once you have secured your place. If you are coming from another country you will need the equivalent local police check.

With our flexible booking policy we can move your trip date to another date within the same year, just make sure to let us know at least 2 months in advance! You can even change your Camp location if you fancy.
If you wish to cancel you can check out our T&Cs HERE! You’ll need to let us know via email as soon as you can if you can no longer travel.
